He previously worked on Hello Kitty animation, Tom and Jerry, and other projects, and served as the art director for Lionbird game. In recent years, he has focused on creating Arttoy, keycaps, and digital art. In January 2022, he released 5555 BadFaceBots NFTs, which sold out within three hours. According to the designer, he is currently exploring the relationship between virtual and reality, humanity and divinity, and the past and future.

I'm KAMANWILLIAM. This time, collaborating with EYEBOXTOY to refine the "Extremely Hungry Maneki-neko" (Lucky Cat) was about incorporating our understanding of "good luck" into a chubby little cat.

The earliest inspiration came from the old Maneki-neko on my desk during late-night work sessions—it always had its paw raised, as if saying, "Just wait a little longer, good luck will come." But I always felt that the traditional Maneki-neko lacked a certain "down-to-earth" quality, lacking the "urgency" our generation felt about life: not passively waiting for good luck, but actively "grabbing" the sweetness in life with a touch of greed and expectation.

Thus, the concept of "extremely hungry" came about: not actual hunger, but a yearning for good luck, for wealth, for all good things—like a kitten staring at a dried fish, eyes shining, paws raised high, a touch of naivety and a hint of persistence. We made its body round and soft, with chubby pink paw pads, smiling, squinting eyes, and even a retro-style gilded collar, aiming to give it both the auspiciousness of a traditional lucky cat and the vibrant energy of a trendy toy.

When making the hidden versions, we hesitated for a long time: finally choosing a large hidden version with full gilding and a small hidden version with freckles. The gold version represents "full of good luck," like wrapping up the fortune of an entire spring; the freckled version represents "small everyday joys," like the unexpected little surprises in our lives. Actually, regardless of which one it is, we want to tell everyone: good luck is never something you wait for; it quietly falls into your hands when you live with anticipation—just like this little cat, raising its paw, always waving for you.

Every time I touch the texture of the figure and look at its round and chubby shape, I feel: trendy toys are not just decorations; they are our love for life and our yearning for good luck, all contained within this small body. The person who receives it will, in a moment of exhaustion, see this smiling kitten and remember: you deserve all the good luck, just as it deserves to be held in your hands.
